“I AM GOD.”
― Sonic.EXE, Too Slow
Sonic.EXE, is the central antagonist of This Mod. He is a sadistic demon that resides in a haunted Sonic the Hedgehog cartridge. He is the main opponent of Too Slow, You Can't Run, and Triple Trouble.
Appearance[]
Sonic.EXE is extremely similar to Classic Sonic, but with notable differences. His fur is darker, and his arms seem to be "softer", and he smiles abnormally with his mouth being totally dark. The main characteristic of Xeno is his black eyes with small reddish glowing pupils, and his eye sockets secrete slightly pink blood from his lower eyelids, resulting in a permanent mark on his face. Occasionally, Sonic.EXE is depicted being slimmer or flatter to differentiate it from regular Sonic.
In You Can't Run, X is taller, has a more serious look, his pupils are absent, and his fur is messier, with his eyes wide open and revealing a bit of his skull on top. In addition, his fur is more purple, and the part of his fur turns into light purple crystals, along with a small X-shaped scar on his chest. His lips stick together like a goo, and the fingertips of his gloves are bloodied. By getting annoyed, Sonic.exe changes reality to a more classic design. In this form, his eyes are more similar to normal Sonic, and the blood from his gloves is gone, however he still has taut lips and blackened fur, along with the flesh of his eye sockets and his mouth being visible in both his poses and idle. Ever since he becomes taller, he take the apperance of Modern Sonic. In the Encore version, the pixel section renders his appearance to be more accurate to Sonic as seen in Sonic 1, with some poses exposing either his blood or his real eyes and now-yellow teeth.
In Triple Trouble and Final Escape, Xenophanes takes on a more beastly form similar to the original portrayal of the character, created by ASTRAMONICONX. In this form, his height increases again, now dwarfing Lord X even uncrouched. His spines are bigger but even messier and more crystallized, and this also reaches the eyebrows and tips of the ears. His former blue fur turns to indigo purple as the blood on his gloves covers half of his fingers. His eyes are larger, exposing more of his cracked skull, and his pupils appear smaller, with red and white irises and black pupils. The X-shaped slash on his chest is now larger, similar to Lord X's. The blood in his body present in his eyes and in his cut are more purple, while his smile opens up revealing his purple-toned gums, tongue and teeth, and crystallized on the sides. The aforementioned X slash now resembles a bleeding wound compared to the original Xenophanes' own slash resembling red scars.
One of the traits of Sonic.EXE that deserves a section of its own is his powers, as he uses them constantly in his songs. Among them is the ability to mess up his own fur, sprout arms or tendrils (perhaps in reference to the tentacle described in Sally.EXE) of his mouth, alter reality, stick on the tips of his lips together, switch the colors of various parts, or make his pupils, blood or teeth disappear, or otherwise change them to something more macabre (pointy, rotten teeth, or glowing pupils). He also can switch an object's trait such as a microphone gray color to red. Despite .EXE's flesh being supposedly a jumbled mess, he can also summon a normal gum and tongue.
Trivia[]
- This mod's version of Xenophanes is a sort of fusion between the original Sonic.EXE and the original variant by giving elements of the latter to the former.
- The original Sonic.EXE's representation in this seems to be taken from MY5TCrimson's games, as seen with the red shoes and the tendrils.
- The original version of Sonic.EXE actually idolizes Sonic, to the point of obsession.
- Xenophanes is the second character to switch between the normal and pixel artstyle mid-song, the first being Monika during Glitcher (Monika Mix).
- They are both also the first characters to appear in multiple different perspectives across multiple songs.
- Strangely, despite how Xeno's 16-bit sprites both appear in and are based off of his sprites in You Can't Run, his corresponding icons appear to be based off of Too Slow's (most noticeable with the eyes).
- If .EXE's down pose in Too Slow is brightened, a red eye can be seen in his left eye socket.
- Similarly, hid 'I'm gonna getcha!' animation has a hidden face in his mouth that can be seen when the sprites are brightened.
- Sonic.EXE's week is meant to represent the evolution of the original character over the years:
- Too Slow represents the original version of the character (or rather how MY5TCrimson depicted him); staying close to his original design.
- You Can't Run represents no particular version of him, but rather his gradual shift into his modern incarnation (as can be seen with how his quills have begun to crystallize, which is more complete in the next song).
- Triple Trouble represents his current form as Xenophanes, where he has “completed his metamorphosis” as a character, so to speak.
- Sonic.EXE is the third character to rap in the middle of a song.
- Sonic.EXE's laughter, aside from the one following his monologue in Too Slow, is an edited version of Kefka Palazzo's laugh. This is due to the original creepypasta mentioning Kefka by name, and later fan-works using it as a basis for his laugh.
- Xenophanes was named after a Greek philosopher.[2]
- Despite popular belief, the Triple Trouble sprites weren't going to get a remaster.[3]
- Strangely, this version of Sonic.EXE is a demon akin to most fanon interpretations of him (specifically the ones in the 2010s between the original trollpasta and this mod), even though Xenophanes is an alien creature that crash-landed in a meteor while X is a void entity that was able to make contact with Earth. The reason for this change is unknown.
- Prior to this mod, Sonic.EXE was commonly thought to be a demon possessing Sonic's body, his first and most well-known fan-made origin. However, it has been confirmed that in the canon, Sonic and Sonic.EXE are two different entities. This may be why the change occured.
- In this mod, Sonic.EXE resides in a haunted cartridge, which is completely different from the original lore, as it involved a cursed disc that acted as a gateway to X's world.
- Yet another oddity seen here is that when pixelated, he seems to be more akin to the Sonic 1 style rather than Sonic 3, the style the characters used in Crimson's game.
- Sonic.EXE's week has multiple nods to various pre-mod content centered around him.
- The jumpscare bears a resemblance to the one seen in "An Ordinary Battle Amongst Familiar Hills".
- The glitching sound heard in both jumpscare and nearly killing BF is taken from the MY5TCrimson game, specifically when Knuckles accesses FFFFFF.
- Tails' head on a post is taken from the aforementioned game's Game Over screen.
- The purple tentacles seen in his 2.0 up pose and his talk animation bear a strong resemblance to the ones described in Sally.exe (the plagiarized story, not the game).
- You Can't Run Encore has a small letimotif of "Confronting Yourself" in the instrumental. This was his theme for the Undertale AU "Differentopic".
Origin[]
Despite popular belief, this version of Sonic.exe is NOT the original. He is instead a reinterpretation of both Shei's Xenophanes, who is also the new official version of Sonic.exe; and MY5TCrimson's Sonic.exe. The main difference is that this version is a demon, while the official one is an alien and the original is a void entity. This version also lacks the crystals on the knees that the canon one has. The official version was created after Sonic.exe was taken away from JC and given to Shei and JoeDoughBoi, who then created Xenophanes and Lord X. In hindsight, this Xenophanes was shown way before the official version was revealed, so this may add to the belief.
The original version of Sonic.exe was actually a dark matter creature who was born in a void between dimensions. He originally had red shoes like most versions, but was changed to grey in 2013. In the same year, a user named MY5TCrimson created a fangame based on the creepypasta, which contained their own take on the character. The creator of Sonic.exe, JC, did not like the changes Crimson did to the story.

Soul Tails[]
“Help us...”
― The Souls after Knuckles' death, Sonic.exe
- See also: Tails (disambiguation).
Miles "Tails" Prower is a character in the Sonic series, and the first to fall victim to Sonic.EXE. He appears as Soul Tails in Triple Trouble, summoned by Sonic.EXE to defeat Boyfriend.
Appearance[]
Soul Tails looks similar to normal Tails, being an anthropomorphic fox with white gloves, red shoes, and two tails, has several major differences compared to his living counterpart. His fur color has shifted from yellow to gray, and both of his eyes are missing; the sockets dripping with blood. His right eye has an X-shaped gash around it, and his right hand and the tips of both his tails have been torn off. In his down pose, his eyes merge into a single, glaring red eye.
He had a cancelled 2.5 design where his gray fur is now darker, his empty eyes having red flesh inside, smaller torn tails, different and more pointy shoes which are off red in color, and including a blue line.
Trivia[]
- Tails' down pose features both of his eyes fused together in a singular red eye, referencing Pervision, a Sonic-based EXE appearing in Sally.exe: Continued Nightmare.
- Soul Tails is the only soul in Triple Trouble who's jumpscare doesn't occur immediately upon his appearance.
- His part in Triple Trouble references Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2, which was Tails' debut game.
- There is some now non-canon lore said by RightBurst:
- Tails cannot fly because his tails are ripped off.[6]
- Tails is sweet but shy around people.[6]
- Tails fears Sonic.EXE.[6]
- Tails' tears of blood disappear in his down pose. This is most likely an error.

Soul Knuckles[]
“Why did you give us to him?”
― The Souls after Knuckles' death, Sonic.exe
- See also: Knuckles The Echidna (disambiguation).
Knuckles the Echidna is a protagonist in the Sonic series, who was killed by Sonic.EXE shortly after Tails. He appears as Soul Knuckles in Triple Trouble, summoned by Sonic.EXE to defeat Boyfriend.
Appearance[]
Knuckles is an anthropomorphic echidna with red fur, maroon shoes, and white gloves with spikes coming out of their fists. Compared to regular Knuckles, Soul Knuckles' once-vibrant red fur has desaturated to a brick color, and his eyes are now black sockets, which seem to be leaking some kind of inky black substance. His mouth is highly deformed, and merges with his eyes in all of his poses. His left arm has also been severed off.
He has a cancelled 2.5 design where he had bright red fur and slight tweaks to his shoes, mouth, tail, and quills.
Trivia[]
- His part in Triple Trouble references Unknown From M.E., his theme from Sonic Adventure.
- There is some now non-canon lore said by RightBurst:
- Knuckles is very hostile when provoked.[9]
- Knuckles gave in to the will of Sonic.EXE out of fear.[9]
- Knuckles is the only soul character whose jumpscare lacks a goreless counterpart in the unfinished 2.5 build.

Soul Robotnik[]
“Run away, before he gets you too...”
― The Souls after Knuckles' death, Sonic.exe
- See also: Eggman / Robotnik (disambiguation).
Dr. Ivo Robotnik, also known as Dr. Eggman, is the main antagonist of the Sonic series, and the last to die by the hands of Sonic.EXE. He appears as Soul Robotnik in Triple Trouble, summoned by Sonic.EXE to defeat Boyfriend.
Appearance[]
Compared to regular Robotnik as he appears in classic Sonic titles, Soul Robotnik's skin has faded and paled, and his head is partially split open, revealing his brain. He lacks eyes and a skull, as his brain now covers the entirety of his upper head. His jaw hangs open limply, and his teeth are yellowed; one of which is missing entirely. Blood also drips from his eye sockets and his mouth. His collar is torn and his clothes have grayed slightly, and both of his hands are gone.
He has an unfinished sketch for his supposed 2.5 design where he had shorter arms and had tweaks to his legs, moustache, and clothes.
Trivia[]
- Soul Robotnik's up pose somewhat resembles artwork of Robotnik from Sonic CD.
- His part in Triple Trouble references the Sonic 2 Boss Theme. Because all of the week's gimmicks appear in this section, as well as the fact that the tempo speeds up, his part is likely meant to convey a boss battle.
- Unlike Soul Tails and Knuckles, Soul Robotnik differs greatly from his depiction in the original Sonic.EXE game; in the game, he was described as having grey skin and broken glasses with blood seeping out of them, whereas in the mod, he has no glasses or eyes and his skin is a sickly pale.
- Due to his lack of skin on either side of his mouth, he is unable to form vocals such as "ooh," "you" or "oh," which is why his vocals only consist of "ah" and "eeh."
- There is some now non-canon lore said by RightBurst:
- The reason Soul Robotnik laughs partway through his section is because he realizes Xenophanes is struggling to defeat Boyfriend, which he finds amusing.[12]
- Robotnik is the smartest of the souls.[9]
- Robotnik is scared to face Sonic.EXE head on.[9]
- Robotnik is very calm.[9]
- Robotnik is fully aware that Sonic.EXE has powers beyond his comprehension.[9]
